So you've moved to the top of the list for an Autism Evaluation.
What do you do now? How do you prepare for your evaluation meeting?
To begin, arrange your initial meeting with the company conducting the evaluation.
Typically, they will schedule a screening session with the parents to inquire about your ausome child.
They will inquire about things such as:
When did you first observe that your child was not reaching developmental milestones?
Do they engage in eye contact with you and others?
Do they prefer isolated play or interacting with others?
Are they sensitive to loud noises?
Do they walk on their toes?
etc.
Following the meeting, a date for the evaluation will probably be arranged. Sometimes, you may need to visit a facility for the assessment, but in some instances, they will conduct it at your home. This is because they prefer to observe the child in a familiar environment.
The evaluation process duration may vary depending on the company, ranging from a single day to multiple days. Some companies prefer scheduling meetings with individual therapists on separate days, while others, like ours, conduct a single meeting with all therapists present. Fortunately, we received our diagnosis promptly on the same day through a Zoom call. Receiving a diagnosis may sometimes require waiting for a few days or even a few weeks in certain situations.
